When is February Half Term in Manchester?

This year not all Greater Manchester areas have the same half-term dates. 

The following area’s half term will run from Monday 12th to Friday 16th February 2024.

The remaining below areas half term will run from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd February 2024.

What’s On In Manchester February Half Term  

There is always a lot going on in Manchester during the school holidays and thankfully February half term is no different.

You’ll find things to do indoors when it is wet and cold, outdoor events to get the kids in the fresh air to kids to kids eat or go free offers and half-term shows. There is something for all ages and budgets.

The Operation Ouch Food, Poo and You exhibition has been extended at the Science and Industry Museum.

Join Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx as you are shrunk, swallowed, squeezed through and then spat out of Dr Xand’s digestive system in this interactive exhibition. 

There will be lots to see and do as you learn all about what happens to food in your body.

The Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays has some great half-term fun in-store for families, all the sessions are free and drop unless it says otherwise.

These events include: 

  • Story Seekers Animals and War – Every Day 10.00 am to 4.00 pm – Marking the 80th anniversary of the Dickin Medal, discover amazing stories of animal heroes from the Second World War with our new Story Seekers trolley.
  • Animals and War – Every Day 11.00 am daily – Part of the Big Picture Show. An immersive 360-degree multimedia experience, follow Milo the mouse and his guide Winkie the pigeon, as they discover stories of brave animals who have helped the war effort from the First World War to the present day.

  • Radical Women’s Trail, Daily, £1.50 – Discover radical women who campaigned for equality on this interactive trail. Suitable for over 12’s.
  • Little Suffragettes Trail, Daily, £2.50 – Discover how women have campaigned for equality, from the women of Peterloo, to the Pankhursts, to the present. Suitable for 5 to 12 year olds.
  • The Twitches Museum Adventure, Daily, Free – Join birdwatching detectives the Twitchers this half term and explore beautiful birds and amazing animals on a twitching trail throughout the museum.
  • Make Your Mark, Wednesday 21st February 2024, Free Join the museum and Amnesty International Manchester to print your own t-shirt.  There will be pre-loved t-shirts to print on or you can bring your own. The sessions are free but need booking.

Kids Takeover Manchester River Cruise

Go aboard the Isabella as Pirate Skai brings the Kid’s Takeover to the Manchester Ship Canal for half term. 

On this hour-long cruise, you can expect fancy dress, a bag of treasure, sing-a-long, rum punch for adults and biscuit and juice for children.

The event is aimed at children aged from 2 to 10 years.

Their Batteries Not Included event explores the history and development of football toys and games, their remarkable influence on our lives and the understanding of the beautiful game.

You will go on an immersive journey, from the Victorian era through to the latest cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) technology. Plus you can get hands-on with a range of toys.

Admission charges apply, however, the National Football Museum is free for Manchester residents.

Another free day out which is great at any time of the year is Manchester Museum. 

Along with all their usual things to do and see (see the link below) they have some great free activities planned.

  • Celebrate Their 1st Birthday From the 20th to 23rd February you can join in with workshops to help celebrate their first birthday by making hats, badges and more. The workshops will run from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm and are free and drop-in.
  • The Language Trail On the 21st of February, they will be running a language-themed trail around the museum. The trail is free and booking is required.

Plus on the 24th of February, you can join the Meet the Changemakers free creative workshops running from 12.00 noon to 4.00pm

Enjoy Z-arts brand new world of interactive play and storytelling at The 100 Story Hotel.

Here you will discover Rob Biddulph’s unique characters located at the most unusual hotel.

At The 100 Story Hotel there are all sorts of guests; lions and tigers, dinosaurs and bears. Plus the porters are penguins, the housekeeping team is headed up by a handy octopus – and Clive the polar bear is the concierge.

There’s just one problem at this wonderful establishment – although the hotel is usually full of 100 amazing stories, one story has just gone missing! The hotel desperately needs your help to find the naughty culprit. Can you follow the clues and track them down?

The 100 Story Hotel at Z-arts is aimed at families with children aged 1 to 8 years. Tickets cost £9.50 and the experience last for 50 minutes.

Saturday 10th to Sun 25th February 2024

This February Half Term, Cockfields Farm in Ashton Under Land will be giving you the chance to meet their new baby goats. Plus if you are lucky you may even get to see a live birth. 

There will also be lots of animal activities throughout the day including feeding meerkats, grooming bunnies and lots more. 

If that’s not enough they have a big play area, sand and water play, indoor role play and lots more to tire the kids out.

Lancaster Farm Park is opening back up for the February half-term with lots of spring fun in-store.

The half-term Lyme Park have some fun activities in-store. 

  • Mr Truelove’s House Trail, Thursday to Tuesday 11.00 am to 4.00 pm – Mr. Truelove, the head butler, needs your help to look after Lyme’s house. Collect your pinny, mobcap or white gloves in the house for your little ones to become a house keeper or a hall boy at Lyme. 
  • Let Loose Toddler Play, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10.00 am to 2.00 pm – Head to the Chapel for pre-school play, stories activities 
  • Welly Wannders – Pick Up a spotter activity sheet and explore Lyme Park and the Crow Wood play area. 

The activities are free, entry fee applies.
