It is not always easy to keep the kids busy during rainy days and during the school holidays. Creative toys and games are always a good bet but with so many to choose from it is difficult to know which will be a hit. With an energetic year 7 year old and a 10 years old always looking to be entertained I am always on the look out for ways to keep them busy when we are stuck at home. Engaging and challenging toys have always been a safe bet especially if they take some time to finish and offer a sense of achievement. If they also have an element of keeping the kids ( and mine) stress levels down all the better. 

Spin Master toys have always been a big hit and they have some great range of toys that fit the bill . From Mechano to Kinetic Sand, to xxxxxxxx along with a range of collectibles and board games they have plenty of choice to keep the keeps entertained.

We hhave been lucky enough to have been both gifted a number of their toys and games as presents by friends and from Spin Master for review purposes.  Here are our top picks .

Meccano Dinosaurs – Reccomended For Children Over 8 Years (GIFTED)

As soon as my 10 year old spotted The Meccano Dinosuar set he couldn’t wait to get started and my husband was just as excited. The set is aimed at children over 8 years old however even those over that age may need a little help to get them started. 

The Meccano 10 Model Set – Dinosaurs contains 179 parts, two real tools and an instruction set and aims to encourage development of STEM skills. To say my husband was in his element would be an understatement. 

The instructions were easy to follow for my son (when he got a look in) and he enjoyed putting the different elements together . My 7 year old daughter not wanting to be left out has also join in with the fun. 

After initially spending an hour starting to build their dino on the first day they all decided to spread the fun doing a bit each day (they are currently half way there). 

It is safe to say The Meccano Dinosuar set has been a big hit at keeping both the kids and my husband entertained and it has been great to see them all working as a team – well most of the time.

Cool Maker Kumikreator 2 in 1 Necklace and Friendship Bracelet Maker – Reccomended For Children Over 8 Years (GIFTED)

If my 10 year son was excited about the Mechano set we were gifted, my 7 year old was completely over the moon when she saw the Kumikreator 2 in 1 Necklace and Friendship Bracelet Maker. 

The Kumikreator includes 60 spools of coloured string with materials to make up to five Kumi bracelets and two necklaces ( replacement sets are also available) is designed to make bracelet and necklace making easy, quick and fun. 

To start off the fun you need to decide on the design and then chose your colours you wish to include. You then need to assemble the spools ,the reccomended YouTube video is great help, then simply spin the handle to make your design.

My daughter Isabelle absolutely loved both spinning the handle and watching the spools spin as they created her first braclet in no time at all. Once it has finished you remove the design adding the included clasps – thats right no knots to tie hooray! 

Isabelle was really pleased with her first bracelet and is planning on making more to post to her best friends.

Candylocks Scented Dolls and Pets – Reccomended For Children Over 5 Years (GIFTED)

My daughter is a big fan of collectible toys and she can literally play with them for hours on end. We recently asked to review the new Candylocks Scented Dolls and Pets sets by Spin Master and they were a big hit.

With 15 inch hair which looks like Candyfloss and smells of delicious scents the dolls have opposable legs arms and heads and come with cute little pet pals with matching hair. There are 8 dolls and their pets to collect plus over 20 additional pets contained within surprise pet packs. 

As soon as my daughter opened the dolls and pets and realised that they had hair to play with, she happily disappeared to her room for well over an hour practising new hair styles and was so proud of herself when she managed to plait all their hair.

Bakugan Battle Planet Reccomended For Children Over 5 Years (GIFTED)

Bakugan Battle Planet is a great game based on the Bakugan TV show. This two player game lets friends and family face off against each other as you roll the Bakugan figures in the hope they pop open to help you win the game. 

To be able to play each play requires three Bakugan figures and their character cards and BakuCores (which come with the figures). There are lots of different characters which you can purchase in single, starter packs (with 3 figures) a battle 5 pack and even a Battle Arena (although can play with this). Plus there are Core, Ultra and Special Edition Bakugan Characters. 

The rules of the Bakugan Battle Planet game are really easy to follow and once we opened the gifted packs my son and daughter were playing in no time and have not stopped ever since.
