Keep the kids entertained this year with our guide to things to do over the February half-term for kids in Cheshire 2025. 

The school holidays are approaching, and that means a whole week of entertaining the kids, which is not always easy with cold and wet weather.

If you are looking for inspiration to keep the kids busy, there is always lots going on around Cheshire, and the half-term will see a whole host of exciting events for children and families.

To help you out we have put together a full list of fun things to do in with both indoor and outdoor and free and cheap options.

Indoor Half Term Events in Cheshire

We all know we can’t rely on the Northwest weather at the best of times, and with Winter still in full swing it is likely that we see at least a couple of days of rain or cold weather. 

That doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun. There are lots of great indoor half-term events.

Have out-of-this-world fun at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre this half term

Jodrell Bank always makes a great day out and this February they have some extra fun in-store with a star trail, shows, crafts and lots more. 

Mars at the Museum, Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, Runcorn

Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd February 2025

Mars offers out-of-this world installations in Norton Priory’s impressive atrium. A touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram, measuring 6 metres in diameter and featuring detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface.

It’s a perfect opportunity to step outside the everyday and experience the red planet in a truly unique setting

Over the half term along with the installation, a special Martian theme will add a touch of fun to Mars at the Museum visits!

The museum will be open 10:00 am – 7:00 pm, each day except Wednesdays. 

Tickets cost £8.00 per person with one free child. Additional children cost £5.00.

Characters Meet and Greets at Castaway Play, Congleton 

Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd February 2025

Castaway Play will be hosting lots of different character meet and greets throughout the half-term holidays.

From favourite Disney characters from Toy Story to Stitch, Bluey and Bingo, Hey Duggee and more.

Family Films at Daneside Theatre, Congleton 

Saturday 15th to Wednesday 19th February 2025 

This half-term families can enjoy a lovely film at Daneside Theatre with the choice of: 

  • Moana 2 (PG) Saturday 15th February 2025 at 7.00 pm 
  • Mufasa Wednesday 19th February 2025 at 2.00 pm

Northwich Explorers, Lion Salt Works and Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse

Northwich Explorers

Wednesday 19th to Friday 21st February 2025 

Kids can enjoy Nature, Art, Science and Technology-based Activities at Northwich Explorers events. 

The sessions will be running at Northwich Museums Lion Salt Works and Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse. 

As follows 

Weaver Hall Museum and Workhouse, 19th February 2025 – Create your own winter landscape using different printing, painting and silhouette collaging techniques – 11.00 am to 1.00 pm

Lion Salt Works – 21st February 2025 – Make a moving cam toy – 11.00 am to 1.00 pm

All the sessions run for an hour, cost £5.00 and need to be booked in advance.

Family Events at Catalyst Science and Discovery Museum, Widnes

Catalyst Science and Discovery Museum in Widnes always makes a great family day out. 

Plus over the school holidays they have some extra fun in-store with the below events:

  • Geology Rocks – Get to be a geologist in this hands-on workshop. Make your own rock, extract salt crystals from rock salt and create a volcano in this fun, family activity. Tickets cost £2.50 plus usual admission. 
  • Building Bridges – Using the local bridges for inspiration, visitors are challenged to build and test their own bridges using K’nex kits. Workshops last approximately 45 minutes and will run twice a day at 12:30 pm and again at 3:00 pm. Tickets cost £2.50 plus usual admission. 

Normal admission costs £9.95 for adults, £7.95 for children, under 3’s for free and family tickets are available.

Outdoor Half-Term Events in Cheshire

For the days we do get some nice weather there are some great outdoor family events are going on throughout the holidays for a fun day out.

Fairytale Scarecrow Trail at Tatton Park

Saturday 15th February to Sunday 2nd March 2025

The annual Scarecrow Festival is back at Tatton Park with a fairy tale theme. 

Look out for your favourite fairytale characters around the gardens on the lookout for the likes of  Rapunzel, Goldilocks and the Three Bears or Jack and his Beanstalk.

You can also meet Aunty Mary and the miller and hear them tell their tales at weekends down at the Farm.

The gardens will be closed on Mondays 17th and 24th February 2025.

February Half Term at Quarry Bank

There’s lots to do at Quarry Bank for families and this half term they have extra fun in-store. 

Unleash your creativity with bug-themed crafts in the Discovery Zone, learn all about the history of water power with a fun Hydro Tour and visit their new Cotton Exhibition.

Walk An Alpaca at Walton Hall and Gardens

Walton Hall and Gardens is offering the chance to Walk An Alpaca this half term. 

For children aged  8 to 14 years can enjoy walking an alpaca around the park with lots of photo opportunities.

Half-Term Fun at Lyme Park

This half-term Lyme Park has some fun activities for families planned.

Get some fresh air with their nature scavenger hunt and if the weather isn’t great you can head indoors to the house for an arty trail.

Junior Farmers Growing Strawberries, Kenyon Hall Farm, Warrington

Kenyon Hall Farm Strawberry Picking Tips

Kids can enjoy a 45 minute session designed for 3 to 13-year-olds and combine learning with hands-on fun.

There will be chance to

  • Visit the strawberry fields and help our farmers prepare the strawberry plants for picking in summer.
  • Learn where our fresh food comes from with a look at the science of growing healthy fruit and veg.
  • Plant your own strawberry in a pot to take away, care for and pick in summer!

Snow Queen Family Trail, Ness Botanic Gardens

Saturday 15th to Sunday 2nd March 2025

Join the Snow Queen family trail this February half-term and marvel at the delicate beauty of the snowdrops in the Ness Botanical Gardens.

You can wander through the enchanting pathways and enjoy the magical sight of snowdrops as you explore. It is suitable for both adults and children.

Tickets cost £8.50 for adults, and £4.50 for children and family tickets are available.

Children’s Ghost Walk, Chester

Join tour guide Ann Coward for a family-friendly Ghost Walk around Chester. 

The event will run 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm places cost £10.00 each and must be booked in advance.

Half Term at Knowsley Safari Park

Speechly’s Sensory Trail at Dunham Massey

Join Dunham Massey for some outdoor fun over half term. 

You can take a walk in the Winter Garden and spot blooms in all seasonal tones, you can also look for the fallow deer among ancient trees in the park. Plus kids can explore the Log Pile in the North Park, where huge fallen trees are perfect for clambering. 

If that is not enough there will be a fun sensory trail around the garden as you follow Speechly The Pineapple on the look out for look for seasonal changes using the five senses to explore and discover.

This outdoor attraction offers a magical trail where you will discover dinosaurs and mythical creatures. 

You will discover new themes, quizzes and lots of photo opportunities.

The trail will be open each day with the exceptions of Mondays and Tuesdays.
