With the cold weather and often rainy days, it is not always easy to entertain the kids over the February half-term.
However, we are lucky that there are lots of great free and cheap events going on in Tameside over the school holidays.

Saturday 18th May to Sunday 2nd June 2024
You can keep the kids busy this half term with some great free activities at IKEA Manchester.
Here’s what they have in-store:
- Saturday 18th May to Sunday 2nd June 2024 – Go on a playful adventure to find out if your more dog or cat with a chance to enter the draw to win a hamper.
- Tuesday 28th May – Pet Themed Crafts – Mask Decorating (10.00 am to 11.30 am) Head to the dining department showroom to make your own pet mask. Drop-In and free.
- Wednesday 30th May – Pet Themed Crafts – Mask Decorating (10.30 am to 13.30 am) Head to the dining department showroom to make your own pet mask. Drop-In and free.

Elmer Day Story Time Dunkinfield and Droylsden Library

Saturday 25th May 2025
Celebrate Elmer is turning 35 at Droylsden and Dukinfield Libraries with a themed story time.
Your invited to wear your brightest colours and enjoy stories, songs and colouring.
The session is Droylsden session aimed at preschoolers, Dukinfield session aimed at 3-6 years.
Both will run from 11.00 am to 11.30 am. Drop in, just turn up.

Make, Do and Play, Portland Basin

Monday 27th Thursday 6th June 2024.
Portland Basin will be running it following Make, Do and Play craft sessions over the bank holiday and half term.
- Monday 27th May 2024 – Butterfly Fun! Join artist Caroline Coates and create a Butterfly puppet
- Tuesday 28th May 2024 – Orgami Canadian Geese. Join Caroline Coates and grab a piece of square paper! Follow the step-by-step instructions and get creating.
- Thursday 30th May 2024 – Paint your own Folk Heart. With Caroline Coates, who will teach you how to paint your own canal art rose, inspired by the wonderful canal and narrow boats outside our wonderful museum.
- Tuesday 4th June 2024 – Love Letters Straight From Your Art Join artist Carrie Williams to make a colourful ’Love Letter’ to someone you love, maybe that’s your Mum or Dad, your best friend or to yourself.
- Thursday 6th June 2024 oin artist Carrie Williams and make these colourful, old fashioned, boiled sweets that look good enough to eat.
The sessions run 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, cost £1.35 per child and are suitable for all ages.

Moss and Forage Walk, Denton West End Community Library

Thursday 30th May 2024
Enjoy a fun family day at Denton West End Community Library.
During this family drop-in workshop there will be lots to do including:
- Felting small moss pods, inspired by natural textures and using traditional felting techniques
- Learn all about moss, an ancient plant family which was amongst the first to colonise the planet.
- Create your own ‘curiosity cloud’ out of clay
- Go on a short foraging walk, where you will bring your cloud with you and fill it in as you go.
Each craft workshop starts on the hour with the walk at half past the hour, no pre-booking required.

£2.50 Movies for Juniors at Cineworld Ashton
A trip to the cinema always makes a great holiday treat.
The kids are occupied for an hour or two and you can sit back and relax – with the exception of the odd toilet break of course.
To help with the cost Cineworld Ashton will be showing Movies for Juniors kids films during the summer holidays which cost just £2.50 per person plus a booking fee.
The films usually change each week from on Fridays.

Half-Term Inflatable Fun Denton

Saturday 25th May to Sunday 2nd June

The fun fair is back at Debdale Park over May Half Term.
There will be fun fair rides for all ages with family and children’s rides.
You can also expect side stalls, food and treats.
