Discover things to do and what’s on in Manchester this May half term for families and kids. 

The May half term is upon us, and that means looking for ways to entertain the kids.

Depending on where you live in Manchester, the kids may have one or two weeks off. Although some school holidays may vary, most will be off on the following dates.

Outdoor May Half Term Events in Manchester

Fingers crossed, we will be greeted with nice warm days over the half-term holidays. If we are treated to dry weather here are some great events to keep kids of all ages entertained and to get some fresh air.

Pokémon Mega Evolution Trail, Quarry Bank

Saturday 23rd May – Sunday 6th September 2026

Pokémon fans can head outdoors this summer for a brand-new Mega Evolution Trail at Quarry Bank. Families will search for hidden Pokémon characters around the gardens, complete themed challenges inspired by their powers and work together to finish the trail sheet along the way.

The interactive trail is designed to encourage children to explore nature while enjoying plenty of Pokémon-themed fun. Trail sheets are available on arrival and there’s even a themed photo opportunity at the end.

Free activity with normal Quarry Bank admission. Suitable for ages 2+.

The Wind in the Willows Trail, RHS Garden Bridgewater

To 31st December 2026

For a great day out you can enjoy a nature-filled family day out at RHS Garden Bridgewater with The Wind in the Willows Trail! Explore the beautiful gardens and follow a hands-on adventure inspired by the beloved story of Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad.

Young visitors can enjoy themed activities, discover hidden creatures along the garden paths, and take part in creative tasks as they wander through the stunning outdoor spaces together. It’s a lovely mix of story, exploration and green-space fun for families.

Garden admission applies; tickets for adults and children are available. A great choice for families and younger visitors.

Lamb Feeding at Lancaster Park Farm

To 30th June 2026

Lancaster Park Farm’s lambs are on the way, and they are giving you the chance to feed them throughout May. 

The event will run at different times depending on the lamb’s development. 

Plus, they will have all the usual fun of the farm, including meeting their animals, bathing their giant tortoise, riding the caterpillar barrel, driving a mini quad and the Pirate Shootout.

Entry tickets cost £8.50 for adults, £8.50 for children and babies under 12 months are free. 

There will be a charge of £3.00 per bottle for the Lamb Feeding

Highland Hoedown, Cockfields Farm

Highland Cow Hoedown Cockfields Farm

Friday 15th May to  Sunday 7th June 2026

Spring is all about new beginnings and Cockfields Farm is celebrating with a special High on the Farm event. Families can meet adorable newborn animals — including lambs, chicks and possibly even a newborn Highland calf — while enjoying animal encounters, feeding sessions and all the usual farm favourites.

There’s also access to the cuddle corner, reptile room, outdoor play areas, carousel rides and sand play, making it a brilliant day out for younger children who love animals.

There will also be chance to groom a highland cow or walk an alpaca for an additional fee. 

The Circus will also be heading to farm for the half term – see below.

Half Term at Dunham Massey 

Dunham Massey is a great place to visit, and this May half-term they have extra fun instore:

You can get creative with crafts, enjoy music on the lawn, and discover the colours and scents of the season.

Or join in with the following trails

Pineapple Post with Speechly the Pineapple 

Help Speechly deliver the ‘pineapple post’, collect stamps and discover seasonal surprises along the way. Collect a booklet from the Visitor Reception or garden kiosk and follow the clues to complete the trail.

From Here to There: a tour for children

Children are invited to take a journey through the historic house, accompanied by Speechly the Pineapple. Grab a Pineapple Passport from the entrance of the house, spot the suitcase stacks, and collect stamps for your passport.

Half-Term Activities at Lyme Park 

Saturday 23rd May to Sunday 7th June 2026

This half-term, head to Lyme Park for blossom theme activities.

Take a Blossom Walk along Hawthorn drive. Follow the pink Blossom signs and use this trail to start your visit to Lyme, or use it as an opportunity to end your visit with a mindful walk.

Enjoy Blossom in the house. Explore how artists and makers across the centuries have used blossom as a symbol for representing beauty, prosperity and the changing seasons on a self-led trail 

Visit the Orangery to see a display of hundreds of paper origami flowers, each made in partnership with local community groups, Lyme staff and volunteers, and shown cascading from the hanging baskets above.

Half Term at Tatton Park 

Saturday 23rd to Sunday 24th May 2026 

Theres lots going on in Tatton Park over May half term from Mini Off Rovers, To Junior Longbow, Wild Life Explorers and more.

Dino Farm, Reddish Vale Farm

Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th May 2026

Dinosaurs are stomping back into Reddish Vale Farm this May for a roar-some family event packed with prehistoric fun. Expect roaming dinosaurs, baby dinosaur meet-and-greets, fossil digging, ranger training and an hourly Golden Dino Egg Hunt throughout the day.

Children will also receive a free dinosaur mask, while all the usual farm favourites will be running too — including outdoor play, tractor rides, pony grooming and meeting the animals.

Circus at the Farm, Cockfields Farm

Roll up, roll up! The National Festival Circus is heading to Cockfields Farm this May half term with a spectacular show packed full of fast-paced juggling, magic, comedy, acrobatics and plenty of family fun. Expect award-winning performers, interactive surprises and jaw-dropping acts including contortionists and the incredible human slinky.

Favourite fairytale characters are heading to Reddish Vale Farm for a magical weekend of princess fun. We all know we can’t rely on the British Weather, and there is always a good chance we will see a rainy day or two.

This May Half Term, Elizabeth Gaskell House has lots of fun in store. 

Children can enjoy fun crafts, and you can enjoy the Cranford Cat trail around the house. 

The crafts will run on their open days on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays over the school holidays.

May Half Term at The People’s History Museum, Manchester

The People’s History Museum is lovely for families with lots of interactive exhibitions and activities. Plus, they will be running the following activities: 

  • Banner Bingo, Daily, Free, Daily – Go on a quest to find images featured in the banners in the galleries to match those on your bingo card. Get a line and shout BINGO, get a full card and shout HOUSE. Suitable for over 5’s. 
  • Makers Market – Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May 2026 – Browse beautifully crafted gifts, curated homeware edits and original ideas for a truly unique shopping experience. Plus, there will be a choir on 17th May. 
  • Story Telling Zone – From Monday, 25th May – then daily – Spin the dice on the story generator, peer into the emotions mirror and use your face, body, or voice to express different feelings and bring your story to life using puppets and props.
  • Strike Den – From Wednesday 27th to Sunday 31st  May 2026 – Step into our Strike Den, where you’ll find creative activities inspired by the history of strikes and solidarity. There will be chance to dress up, explore the reading corner, and get creative with your own art. 

The Museum is open daily except Tuesdays from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm

Manchester Museum has a packed programme of free family events this May half term, with cultural celebrations, nature activities and hands-on creative workshops taking place across the museum.

  • Human Natures Exhibition Until 1st November 2026 – Through interactive displays, striking installations and fascinating objects from the museum’s collections, visitors can discover stories about wildlife, fashion, waste, climate and the ways humans shape the planet.
  • RSPB Pop-Up Stall – Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th May and Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st May | 10am–5pm – Meet the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and take part in nature-themed activities while learning about wildlife conservation and how to support local birds.
  • Manchester Museum Celebrates Africa Day – Saturday 23rd May | 10am–4pm – Experience African culture through music, dance, fashion, talks, workshops and opportunities to engage with objects from the museum’s collections.
  • Reuse and Recycle Crafts – Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th May | 11am–4pm – Get creative using recycled materials in these drop-in craft sessions inspired by the museum’s Human Natures exhibition.
  • Manchester Museum Celebrates Vesak – Saturday 30th May | 1pm–4pm – Discover Vesak, one of the most important festivals in the Buddhist calendar, with family-friendly activities and cultural celebrations across the museum.

Manchester Art Gallery is running a mix of free family trails, creative workshops and interactive sessions during May half term, giving children plenty of opportunities to explore art through play and making.

  • Wild Wonder Family Trail – Ongoing | During gallery opening hours – Pick up the free digital trail and explore artworks filled with animals, creatures and playful surprises. Families can follow clues around the gallery and discover fascinating facts about the natural world.

  • Still Standing – Saturday 23rd May and Saturday 30th May | Times vary – Join artist-led family sessions inspired by themes of resilience, identity and community. Activities encourage children and adults to make, discuss and respond creatively together.

Africa Day: Rooted, Aviva Studios (Factory International)

Saturday 23rd May 2026 | From 12pm

Celebrate Africa Day at Aviva Studios with a vibrant programme of free family-friendly events exploring African culture through music, dance, art and creativity. Curated by FUZIA, the day features performances, workshops, live music and hands-on activities inspired by traditions from across the African continent and diaspora.

  • Traditional Music & Performances – 12pm onwards – Enjoy live performances throughout the day including traditional Gnawa music, rap, Angolan fusion music and an energetic finale featuring FUZIA’s 50-piece drum troupe.
  • Flags of Pride Workshop – 12pm–1.30pm – Families can design and create African-inspired flags in this colourful making session. Suitable for ages 5+ (booking required).

Salford Museum & Art Gallery is running a creative programme of family-friendly activities this half term, inspired by art, history and hands-on making. Set within the museum’s Victorian streets and galleries, families can enjoy drop-in sessions and bookable workshops throughout the week.

  • Pick & Mix Playtime – Wednesday 27th May | 10:30am–12:30pm – A fun, drop-in play session for younger children featuring creative zones, sensory activities and open-ended play inspired by museum themes.
