Pirate Treasure Hunt at Sealife Manchester

Head to Sealife Manchester for a pirate adventure this August Bank Holiday.

You can go on a swashbuckling treasure hunt through the aquarium to help the Captain find all the lost booty that is hidden around the filling in the pirate map as you go.

As you make your way around you can learn all about our ‘treasures of the ocean’. Plus you may win a prize at the end. 

If that isn’t enough there will also be a special Captain’s Colouring Station, there will be a chance to learn some new knot-tying skills and try your luck at pirate bingo. 

Of course, you will also be able to check out SEA LIFE Manchester’s fishy residents including Sharks, Turtles, Japanese Spider Crabs, Rays, Clownfish and much more! 

The activities are included in the admission and tickets cost from £15.50 for children and £18.50 for adults.

Celebrate the acclaimed partnership between Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler with a bank holiday trip to this new exhibition.

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s are the creators of the world’s best-loved, and best-selling children’s books, including The Gruffalo, Zog, Room on the Broom, The Smeds and the Smoos, and most recently, The Baddies.

The family-friendly exhibition will feature several of Julia Donaldson’s personal writing notebooks; containing the very first ideas and creative thinking behind her picture book stories.

There will also be Axel Scheffler’s artwork, showing the process of his illustrations from sketches and works in progress. You will be able to check out full-page final illustrations that readers are familiar with seeing in the finished books.

Throughout the exhibition, there will be lots of fun opportunities for children to be creative themselves as they are guided to write their own stories, draw pictures, dress up, and play fun games inspired by the books.

The event is drop-in and free .

Discover 30 old stationary steam engines, some of which once powered the cotton mills and woollen mills of the North of England and lots of which are unique being only one of its kind in the world!

Watch as some of these amazing machines run on their steam.

There will also be an activity sheet for the children, and hot & cold drinks and snacks on sale in the Engine View Cafe.

Watch the larger-than-life Zog on the stage at The Lowry Theatre. 

The smash-hit stage adaptation from Freckle Productions (the team behind Zog and the Flying Doctors and Stick Man) is back and promises to be bigger, brighter and more roar-some than ever before!

Based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the show follows Zog as he starts at Madam Dragon’s school, where dragons learn all the things that dragons need to know.

Zog tries hard and manages to bump, burn and roar his way through years one, two and three.  Luckily, the plucky Princess Pearl patches him up ready to face his biggest challenge yet…a duel with the knight, Sir Gadabout the Great!

The Museum of Transport will be running its free Heritage Bus Rides on Bank Holiday Monday. 

The bus will run from the Museum of Transport, to Queens Road Metrolink, Corporation St, Shudehill, Queens Road Metrolink and back to the Museum of Transport.

The buses from 11.00am to 4.00pm.

The museum will also be open, tickets for which cost £6 for adults and children under 16 years are free.
