However, we are lucky that there are lots of great free and cheap events going on in Tameside this summer.
From free big snail hunts, planetariums, family yoga, craft sessions and lots more there is something for all ages.

Make, Do and Play, Portland Basin
Tuesday 1st August 2023 to Thursday 31st August
Head to Portland Basin for some crafty fun over the summer holidays.
There will be different themes and crafts each week and sessions only cost £1.30 per child.

Free Reading Challenge Activities, Tameside Libraries
Monday 31st July to Friday 25th August 2023
Libraries across Tameside will be running Reading Themed activities across the summer holidays.
There will be a different theme each week and activities will include crafts, games and a treasure hunt.
The sessions are for 4 to 11-year-olds and are free.
Lego Club, Stalybridge Library
Wednesday 2nd August 2023
Children aged 7 years and over can enjoy a fun Lego-building session.
The session is free and drop-in, and Lego is provided.
The club runs from 3:30pm to 4.30pm.
W.E.T Creative Workshop, Astley Cheetham Art Gallery
For children ages 4 years and older you can enjoy a fun family workshop at W.E.T.
The Water Exploration Team is an interactive installation, where creativity is at the helm.
You will discover the wonder of the blue spaces, zooming in through the spying glass to take a closer look at species that live below and the ways we can look after their homes.
You will be able to cut, stick and colour your own Crew members! Then use them to go on an adventure with your puppets.
You can decide whether will you face the Kraken, be deserted on a tropical island or go to the bottom of the deep blue?
You will perform with our bespoke puppets and interactive sound effects!
The sessions are free and drop-in and will run from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm
Bio Blitz, Chadwick Dam, Stalybridge
Saturday 5th August 2023
Join the expert spotters in a race against time to identify as many species as possible that make the dam their home.
You will be on the lookout for everything from bugs to birds, flowers to flies and more.
Plus there will be some fun arts and crafts activities.
The event will be, free, drop in and will run from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm
Foraged Delights, Lower Higham Visitor Centre, Werneth Low Country Park
Wednesday 9th August 2023
Head to Werneth Low Country Park for a fun session.
Take part in making community bunting, and make and take away your own handmade scented play dough.
Join Adam Blake from the Adventure Bureau will be on hand to create unique magical improvised stories on the day.
Plus you can help James Brunt Land artist forage for natural delights and creating outdoors and the shared experience of nature art.

Psst Meet you by the Story Tent! Crafts and Stories, Chadwick Dam, Stalybridge
Saturday 12th August 2023
Join an amazing storyteller as you celebrate the wonderful world of folklore and world myths.
You can help decorate the travelling story tent, try your hand at printing, crafting bugs and beasts, animals and flowers. join us

Woven Rainbows Arts and Scavenger Hunt Session, Sunny Bank Vale, Droylsden

Join Julie Turnbull our resident Willow Weaver and the Outdoor Arts cohort in creating the largest willow ball ever.
Peek through your own hand-made windows of nature.
Plus you can take part in a scavenger hunt in exploring the wilds of Sunnybank Vale.
The session is free and drop-in from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Read and Dance for All, Droylsden and Dukinfield Libraries
Friday 18th August 2023
Join Salma’s Bollywood Academy for a fun session.
Aimed to encourage the love of reading through physical activity, the event will include games and dance.
The dance sessions are free and will take place on 18th August 2023 at
- Droylsden Library – 9.30 am to 10.30 am and 11.00 am to 12.00 noon
- Dukinfield Library – 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm and 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Join James Brunt create large scale land art at Waterloo Park
Plus you can meet Adam Blake, an intrepid explorer from the Adventure Bureau who will be on hand to create unique magical improvised stories on the day.
The sessions are free and drop-in from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm
Free Outdoor Theatre In The Park
The free Theatre In The Park shows are back in Tameside greenspaces for 2023.
This year the shows will be running in various places throughout Tameside including Denton, Longendale and Stalybridge.
The shows will offer the chance to see delights such as the Ugly Duckling, The Giant Balloon Show, Falconry Dissmay and lots more.
The shows are all free but tickets are required.

£2.50 Movies for Juniors at Cineworld Ashton
A trip to the cinema always makes a great holiday treat. The kids are occupied for an hour or two and you can sit back and relax – with the exception of the odd toilet break of course.
To help with the cost Cineworld Ashton will be showing Movies for Juniors kids films during the summer holidays which cost just £2.50 per person plus a booking fee.
The films usually change each week from on Fridays.

Farmlife Festival at Cockfields Farm
This summer Cockfields Farm has lots of fun in store this summer holiday as their Farmlife Festival is back for 2023.
Done your festival outfit and your dancing shoes on to get ready for Farmlife at Cockfields.
Running at the start and then again towards the end of the holidays, there will be a whole of festival activities on offer.
Expect dancing in the Dance Barn, comedy shows, free face glitter and even a foam party at the end of the day.
The animals will also be getting involved in the fun with small pet grooming, the chance to meet the meerkats and lizards, show off your brave side by holding a snake and lots more.
