The school holidays are on the way, which means weeks to keep the kids busy and hopefully, us parents staying sane.
If you are looking for inspiration to keep the kids busy we have put together a full list of fun things to and what’s on across Tameside for families over the summer.
With 5 weeks to entertain the kids, the summer holidays can prove expensive.
However, we are lucky that there are lots of great free and cheap events going on in Tameside this summer.
Plus some great ideas for big days out and more.
From farm visits in Ashton Under Lyne, theatre shows in Hyde and lots of free events we have put together a guide of things to do in Tameside over the Summer Holidays 2025.
£2.50 Movies for Juniors at Cineworld Ashton
Saturday 26th July to Sundday 31st August 2025
A trip to the cinema always makes a great holiday treat. The kids are occupied for an hour or two and you can sit back and relax – with the exception of the odd toilet break of course.
To help with the cost Cineworld Ashton will be showing Movies for Juniors kids films during the summer holidays which cost just £2.50 per person plus a booking fee.
The films usually change each week from on Fridays.

Big Summer Blow Out, Cockfields Farm
Saturday 26th July to Sunday 31st August 2025.
Farmfest Festival is back at Cockfields Farm for 2025.
Get in the summer spirit with lots of fun activities including Helter Skelter rides, Barnyard Bingo With Prizes, Party Tractor Trailer Rides, Mini Moo-vers Indoor Rave Festival Glitter Paint and lots more.
If that’s not enough you will also be able to take part in animal activities and all the fun of the farm including their huge bouncy pillow, role-play area and lots more.

Lego Club, Ashton and Stalybridge Libraries
Tuesday 22nd July and Wednesday 6th August 2025
Children aged 7 years and over can enjoy a fun Lego-building session.
The session is free and drop-in, and Lego is provided.
The club will run on:
- Ashton Library – Tuesday 22nd July – 3:30 pm to 4.30 pm.
- Stalybridge Library – Wednesday 6th August – 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Dane Bank Green Space Fun Day
Saturday 26th July 2024
Enjoy a day in nature at The Dane Bank Family Fun Day.
There will be arts and crafts, face painting, paint a pot, games, a nature trail and more.
The event will run from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Kids Summer Activities at New Life Church, Ashton
Monday 28th july to Monday 18th August 2025
New Life Church in Ashton Under Lyne will be hosting the following kids activities over the summer holidays:
- Monday 28th July 2025 – Movie Club
- Monday 4thAugust 2025 – Crafts
- Monday 11th August 2025 – Movie Club
- Monday 18rd August 2025 – Craft Club
The events will run from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and for primary school children only.

Make, Do and Play, Portland Basin
Tuesday 29th July to Thursday 28th August 2025
Head to Portland Basin for some crafty fun over the summer holidays.
There will be different themes and crafts each week and sessions only cost £1.35 per child.

Victory Event Day Portland Basin
Wednesday 30th July 2025
Join Portland Basin to celebrate the end of the Second World War in this jam-packed, FREE family event day.
You will be able to meet WW2 characters on our old street and join in a sing-along. Handle historical objects, design your own badge and have your hand painted with henna and more.

Our Museum Day, Portland Basin
Thursday 7th August 2025
Celebrating the wonderful and unique Portland Museum in this FREE family family-friendly event day.
It will be packed full of fun activities, and you will discover so much about our museum and its collection.
There will be ‘Our Museum’ challenges, different zones to do different things – from print making to badge making, perhaps learn some new dance steps with our clog dancers, watch a blacksmith demo, or just have a chat with the characters on Old Street.

Let’s Go To The Beach, Stalybridge
Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd August 2025
Step into the seaside-themed Victoria Market Hall and relax on one of the deck chairs or build a castle in our fun-sized sand pit.
Expect artists and entertainers to run sessions alongside the pop-up beach. Plus there will be a variety of activities and games with treats and crafts.

Portland Basin’s Family Jamboree
Monday 25th August 2025
Head to Portland Basin Museum for a family jamboree with free performances and activities for young people and their grown-ups.
Learn fantastic circus skills with SHORT SCRUFFS and watch their laugh-out-loud puppet extravaganza show ‘The Jump’, listen to live music from talented North West artists, and make marvellous masks with Aimee that help us celebrate all of the brilliant people in our community.

Free Reading Challenge Activities, Tameside Libraries

Libraries across Tameside will be running Reading Themed activities across the summer holidays.
There will be a different theme each week and activities will include crafts, games and a treasure hunt.
The sessions are for 4 to 11-year-olds and are free.

Sport-tastic Summer at Ladysmith, Ashton
Ladysmith, Ashton is hosting a spectacular launch party to unveil their sport-tastic mosaic to the public,
- 11:05 am – 11:45 am – Freestyle Workshop
- 12:00 pm – 12:05 pm – Performance to music
- 12:05 pm – 12:45 pm – Freestyle Workshop
- 1:00 pm – 1:05 pm – Performance to music

Free Outdoor Theatre In The Park

The free Theatre In The Park shows are back in Tameside greenspaces for 2025.
This year the shows will be running in various places throughout Tameside including Denton, Longendale and Stalybridge.
The shows will offer the chance to see delights such as the Ugly Duckling, The Giant Balloon Show, Falconry Dissmay and lots more.
The shows are all free or pay what you can but tickets are required.
