If you’re looking for magical Christmas light trails, Cheshire has some of the most enchanting festive experiences in the North West.

From glowing lanterns and illuminated forests to immersive woodland pantos and animal-themed light displays, these trails make the perfect winter adventure for families.

Dates: Saturday 15th November to Saturday 31st January 2025 (Selected Dates)

Tickets: From £39 for Twinkle package (lantern trail + theme park), from £13.75 for trail only.

Land of Lights returns to Gulliver’s World for 2025 with its spectacular mile-long lantern trail and a brand-new selection of illuminated “Dreamworlds”. Expect huge glowing lanterns, themed zones inspired by fantasy, wildlife and global landmarks, interactive light scenes, and music throughout the walk.

Visitors can choose between a lantern-only experience or the Twinkle package, which includes theme park access. Food stalls, hot drinks and free parking are available.

The Lanterns at Chester Zoo, Chester, Cheshire

Dates: 14th November 2025 to 3rd January 2026

Tickets: Adults £19–£26, Children £12–£19, Under 1s & carers free

Chester Zoo’s iconic lantern trail returns with its biggest transformation yet. Working alongside Sony Music and Culture Creative, the 2025 trail features breathtaking new installations, including shimmering ribbon tunnels, neon walkways, “bubble trail”, light creature puppets and illuminated habitats.

Evening entry is timed, with the route fully pushchair and wheelchair accessible. Quiet Hour sessions are available on selected dates for families who prefer a calmer experience.

Enchanted Knowsley Christmas Light Trail

Dates: 22 November to 23 December 2025 (selected dates)

Tickets: From £9.50

The Foot Safari transforms after dark for Enchanted, Knowsley Safari’s illuminated Christmas trail. Families can follow glowing animal lanterns along the pathways, venture through light tunnels, and warm up by the fire pits with marshmallows (usually included).

Additional festive extras include a Santa’s Grotto (separate ticket) and seasonal snacks and drinks available along the route.

Magical Wonderland Christmas Light Trail, Blakemere Village, Cheshire

Set in 15 acres of woodland, Blakemere’s Magical Woodland trail is one of Cheshire’s most immersive Christmas experiences. Wander through cathedral-like fairy-light canopies, laser tunnels, floating lanterns, interactive displays and softly glowing pathways.

New for 2025 are real reindeer, along with appearances from Mr & Mrs Claus and plenty of opportunities for marshmallow toasting. Street-food stalls and hot drinks run throughout the evening. Parking must be pre-booked.

Sparkly Light and Panto Trail at BeWILDerwood Presents Christmas, Cheshire

Dates: 29th to 30th November, 6th to 7th December, 13th to 14th December and 19th to 23th December 2025

Tickets: £17.50 per person (under 2s free)

This magical nighttime experience invites families into BeWILDerwood’s enchanted woods, filled with twinkling light installations, silly snowmen, festive decorations and glowing surprises.

A highlight is the 15–20 minute mini-panto, where BeWILDerwood characters work together to “save Christmas”. Children also meet Father Christmas and receive a small book. The trail lasts around 1.5 hours and includes free parking.
