This Christmas, Twilight Tales brings a mesmerising festive adventure to Freight Island, transforming the space into a glowing, magical world of lights and stories.

Over a self-led 30-minute trail, visitors will journey through themed zones such as a shimmering Lumina Falls, an Icicle Cave, the dazzling Mirrorball Cave, a Spirograph Tunnel – and even hop on a little Twilight Express through an elf-populated playground.

Set in the heart of Manchester city centre, the event takes place at Freight Island, creating a vivid contrast between the urban grit and the soft, twinkling light installations.

It runs on select dates in the run-up to Christmas, from late afternoon into the evening, giving the lights their full magic as dusk falls.

Inside, families can toast marshmallows, enjoy festive treats and hot drinks, and visit Santa’s Workshop for that extra seasonal sparkle. There’s also face-painting for the kids and live elements that bring the storytelling to life. The trail is wheelchair accessible, though some paths are uneven, and quieter sensory moments alternate with brighter, more immersive displays, making it a good pick for children who love both calm and spectacle.

Plus, kids will eat free at Freight Island with each child ticket and adult meal purchased – selected vendors.
