The new Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters have arrived.

We were kindly gifted two of the new characters for an honest opinion. We asked our On The Go reviewer Gemma and her children to check them out.

The kids, especially my nine-year-old daughter, are big fans of the Heroes of Goo Jit Zu, loving the squishy and stretchy play and the fun characters.

We were therefore intrigued to see the new Goo Shifters with the Crush The Core feature, and couldn’t wait to check them out.

Here is what we thought.

What are Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters?

There are seven characters in the Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters range.

Original Heroes Blazagon, Thrash, Pantaro and Tryo are also joined by new character Bengal. Plus villains Rock Jaw and the Ultra Rare Corruptagon who has a light-up core.

There are also two exclusive characters Liquid Gold Pantaro and Shadow Orb Scorpius. These come in a versus pack and which we were kindly gifted.

The new Goo Shifters add a new element of play to the Heroes of Goo Jit Zu toys.

They still have the fun stretchy and gooey element that my kids love but they also have a brand new inner core.

The core, a small squishy ball in the middle of the Heroes, contains the character’s powers and needs to be crushed to active their “Goo Formation” –  changing the look of the character.

To “Crush The Core” you need to squeeze the ball quite a few times ( the packet indicated 9 ) until you see the power emerge.

We started Liquid Gold Pantaro which started out as a light yellow with a blue core. Once my son crushed the core he filled with a gold liquid which had a magical-looking shimmer when moved.

My daughter had gravitated to Shadow Orb Scorpius who started as a light purple colour. She struggled slightly more to crush the red core than my son but once she managed it she was delighted to see Scorpius turn a darker purple.

Having seen on the packaging that the core appeared to contain little orbs, I was a bit confused by this transformation. However, after around half an hour little balls seem to form and by the next day he was full of them.

Not only did they change Scorpio’s look but also gave him a new feel. To say my daughter was excited when she noticed this would be an understatement.

Once both inner cores had been activated, it was time for the battle to begin.

My daughter loves a good action hero battle and usually has to do quite a lot of persuading to get her twelve-year-old brother to join in.

However, after being impressed with the “Crush The Core” no persuasion was needed, especially when he remembered the spring-back actions on the arms when stretched.

What We Thought About Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters

Both my children loved the new “Crush The Core” Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters. It adds a great new interactive element which my nine-year-old adored and my twelve-year-old announced as ‘cool’ an extremely high compliment from this pre-teen.

As with the other Heroes of Goo Jit Zu toys, they take can take a lot of rough play with my son putting this to the test squishing and stretching Pantaro to its over and over again.

And when my daughter is not staging battles she has taken to using the Goo Shifters as fidget toys especially Scorpius with its squishy orbs.
