Join Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx as you are shrunk, swallowed, squeezed through and then spat out of Dr Xand’s digestive system.

The fun adventure will help to understand our brilliant bodies better. 

You will explore the role of each organ in the digestive journey, from bowels to gallbladder all with incredible interactive activities which will include: 

  • Sniff out the science of how food is broken down,
  • Protect the body from bugs by fighting off bad bacteria
  • Step up to the poo-duction line to work together to help move waste through the large intestine and out the other end
  • And lots more 

Plus you will be able to discover inspiring stories of young people living with a range of digestive conditions and learn about the medicine helping to treat them.

See fascinating objects from the Science Museum Group’s collection alongside amazing cutting-edge technology including Larry the Vomiting Robot, who helped scientists understand the distribution of norovirus particles.

When is the Operation Ouch exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum?

This special Operation Ouch exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum will run from 21st July 2023 to 9th June 2024.

The exhibition with set entry sessions will open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. 

They will also be offering relaxed sessions and sessions for younger children – see below. 

Relaxed Sessions for Operation Ouch Exhibition in Manchester

Along with the standard sessions, there will also be sensory-friendly sessions specially designed for those who prefer an adjusted environment.   

There will be a smaller capacity, with adjusted sound levels throughout the exhibition.

There will also be additional sensory activities to enjoy with the museum Explainers.

The sessions will be taking place: 

  • Friday 11th August 2023, 10.00 am –12.00 noon
  • Sunday 1 October 2023, 10.00 am –12.00 noon
  • Sunday 19 November 2023, 14.30 pm –17.00 pm 
  • Sunday 21 January 2024, 14.30 pm –17.00 pm
  • Sunday 3 March 2024, 10.00 am –12.00 noon
  • Sunday 12 May 2024, 10.00 am –12.00 noon

Experitots Under 5’s Sessions for Operation Ouch

Although the main exhibition is aimed at children over 5 years old, there will be special Experitots sessions for under 5’s sessions. 

The sessions are designed especially for those with children under five.

You will be able to explore the exhibition with support from our friendly Explainer team and enjoy some additional activities, all of which will be suitable for younger children, from babes in arms to toddlers.

The under-5 sessions will run on:
