Join Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx as you are shrunk, to microscopic size and set out on a medical mission into Dr Chris’s brain headquarters

Journey through an ear canal covered in gooey wax, squeeze past sticky snot and plunge headfirst into the incredible world of our senses.

Venture through the five familiar senses of touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste, as well as lesser-known secret senses that help you stay balanced, tell you when you need a wee and when it’s time to sleep.

From sight to sound, mini medics and curious kids can get stuck into sense-sational science through interactive games, challenges and fun facts guided by videos and illustrations of Operation Ouch! hosts Dr Chris, Dr Xand and Dr Ronx.

Visitors will be able to enjoy incredible interactive activities which will include:

Poke around inside a giant eyeball and bang on an enormous eardrum
Take a whiff of the smell library and compete with friends and families to identify a variety of sounds
Start your own chain reaction with dominoes to discover how our nerves send messages
Test Dr Chris’s reactions to stinky smells, raucous sounds and even a giant tickly feather
And get sneezed out of a giant nose

Plus you also be able to explore the

Science Museum Group’s collection includes a brain-scanning ‘Jedi’ helmet worn by children over 40 years ago; Ear trumpets that were used to improve hearing before hearing aids and coins that were touched by Henry VIII and given to sick people, believed to be a cure.

The exhibition is recommended for children over 5 years old but sessions for younger children will be running – see below.

When is the Operation Ouch exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum?

This special Operation Ouch exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum will run from Friday 14th February 2025 to 4th January 2026.

The exhibition with set entry sessions will open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

They will also be offering relaxed sessions and sessions for younger children – see below.

Relaxed Sessions for Operation Ouch Exhibition in Manchester

Along with the standard sessions, there will also be sensory-friendly sessions specially designed for those who prefer an adjusted environment.

There will be a smaller capacity, with adjusted sound levels throughout the exhibition.

There will also be additional sensory activities to enjoy with the museum Explainers.

Experitots Under 5’s Sessions for Operation Ouch

The main exhibition is aimed at children over 5 years old however if you have an under 5 there will be special Experitots sessions.

You will be able to explore the exhibition with support from our friendly Explainer team and enjoy some additional activities, all of which will be suitable for younger children, from babes in arms to toddlers.
