Manchester Day 2026 – Free Family Event in Manchester
Enjoy one of Manchester’s biggest free family events as Manchester Day returns on Sunday 26th July 2026 with a spectacular parade, live entertainment, hands-on family activities and performances taking place across Manchester city centre.
This year’s celebration is inspired by books, reading and storytelling, with communities, artists and performers bringing stories to life through music, dance, theatre, giant creations and interactive experiences. Manchester will also celebrate its friendship with Barcelona, with performers from both cities taking part throughout the day.

Manchester Day 2026

Manchester Day is the city’s annual celebration of culture, creativity and community. Families can spend the day exploring live performances, street theatre, workshops and entertainment spread across several locations in the city centre.
Whether you want to watch the colourful parade, enjoy live music or join in with interactive activities, there will be something happening throughout the afternoon for visitors of all ages.
Manchester Day Parade
Starts at 1.00pm
The highlight of Manchester Day is the spectacular annual parade, featuring more than 500 performers from across Greater Manchester alongside visiting performers from Barcelona.
Expect giant puppets, colourful costumes, live music, dance, community groups and larger-than-life creations inspired by this year’s storytelling theme as the parade winds its way through the city centre.
Families are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot along the route.
Manchester Day Activities & Locations
Albert Square
12.00 noon to 5.00pm
Albert Square will be one of the main entertainment hubs, packed with spectacular performances and family fun throughout the afternoon.
Highlights include:
- Motionhouse’s breathtaking BLOCK aerial and acrobatic performance.
- Brimstone, the enormous walkabout dragon.
- Magnificent giant polar bear puppets.
- Live ska, swing and brass band performances.
- Face painting.

St Peter’s Square & Central Library

St Peter’s Square offers another fantastic programme of family entertainment, combining circus skills, dance, storytelling and hands-on experiences.
Activities include:
- A giant inflatable whale installation.
- Circus House performances and circus workshops.
- Dance Like a Mother family performances.
- High-energy performances from TS Crew.
- Roaming dragons and medieval knights.
- Book and storytelling activities inside Central Library.
This area is perfect for families looking for interactive performances alongside this year’s storytelling celebrations.
St Ann’s Square

St Ann’s Square will host a varied programme of music, storytelling and community performances celebrating Manchester’s creativity.
Throughout the afternoon families can enjoy live performances, walkabout entertainment and a relaxed festival atmosphere while exploring one of the city’s most historic squares.
Exchange Square

Exchange Square will be filled with live music, dance and family entertainment throughout Manchester Day, making it a great place to stop and enjoy the celebrations.

Brazennose Street becomes part of the Manchester Day celebrations with pop-up performances, street entertainment and surprise acts appearing throughout the afternoon.

New Cathedral Street

New Cathedral Street will host a programme of live entertainment, walkabout performances and family-friendly activities, adding even more excitement to the city centre celebrations.
As one of Manchester’s busiest shopping streets, it’s the perfect place to stumble across surprise performances while exploring everything Manchester Day has to offer.

Getting There

If you’re travelling by car, city centre car parks will be open, although they are expected to be busy throughout the day.
