Manchester is gearing up to welcome in 2026 with two exciting city-centre New Year’s Eve events, including a free firework & light spectacular.

Free Fireworks & Light Spectacular at St Peter’s Square

This year, Manchester is offering two simultaneous New Year’s Eve celebrations and the spotlight for fireworks is on St Peter’s Square.

From around 10 pm, the square hosts a family-friendly, alcohol-free party with music hosted by BBC Radio Manchester’s Joe McGrath and DJ Jimmy the Gent.

At midnight, watch the sky light up with a spectacular firework and light show launched from the roof of Manchester’s iconic Central Library — all completely free to attend.

Entry is controlled with security checks and bags no larger than A4.

Starts: 10 pm with music and DJ sets.

Accessible viewing area on the Metrolink tram platform (first-come).

Albert Square – Funfair, Ferris Wheel & Food

Right across town, Albert Square has its own festive New Year vibe. The giant festive Ferris wheel — one of the largest mobile wheels in the country — lights up the square alongside a foodie and craft market with seasonal eats and tipsy treats.

The square is open throughout New Year’s Eve through until around 12:30 am, with capacity-controlled entry. Ride the wheel for spectacular views over the city as midnight arrives, and enjoy the relaxed fair atmosphere.

Entry Tips & Practical Info

Manchester’s NYE celebrations are popular, and space in both squares is strictly managed: once capacity is reached, no further entry is permitted.

Entry to St Peter’s or Albert Square doesn’t guarantee access to the other.
Bags must be A4 size or smaller
Guide dogs only are permitted at St Peter’s Square.
Toilets (including accessible facilities) are available on both sites until early hours.
Transport planning is key — no trams through St Peter’s Square after 9 pm.
