February half term is upon us and with the current lockdown restrictions still in place entertaining the kids may seem more daunting than ever before.

Following the success of Tameside council’s Halloween themed audio trail last year, this February half term they are celebrating National Nest Box week with two audio trails around Stamford Park and Hyde Park. Along both trails, families will be able to find pictures of colourful birds and listen to the specially created audio files where each bird will tell you all about themselves and offer some clues to match the bird to their nest.

With the current restrictions, it is not easy to entertain the kids. To help families get out and about in their local area, Tameside Council has put together a set of self-led family activity trails and activities across Tameside Parks. Check them out below.

Tameside February Half Term Online Activities

Dust Theatre Production – By Half Moon and Z-Arts co-production – 15th to 19th February 2021

Watch a live-recorded play from Half Moon and Z-arts aimed at 4 to 9 year olds. When Little Titch arrives at the pink house it is not what she expected. Her new home is cold and unwelcoming until she meets Nelly, a flamboyant and loveable hoarder, and together they discover that friendship can heal hidden wounds.

Tickets are required and are pay what you can.  It is entirely up to you how much you pay, our partners have suggested a minimum family price of £3. But regardless of how much you pay, you will be able to access the same fantastic show.

Bird Themed Craft Activities

To celebrate National Nest Box Week, Tameside Culture has put together some great bird-themed craft activities. From how to make a plant pot nestbox to how to build a bird’s nest and more, there are lots to keep your little ones busy.

Design A Nest Box Competition

Tameside Culture is inviting children to create their own nest box design. Use the supplied template to design your nest box and submit a photo to enter. There will 3 winners who receive the prize of a wooden nest box kit and a certificate.
