Manchester City Council Announce Road Works with Closure of The Mancunian Way

Manchester City Council has announced road works on the Mancunian Way.
Making the announcement on their Facebook page, the council has indicated that the Mancunian Way will be closed from Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th February 2021.
The closure is due to the annual maintenance of the A57(M).
The road works will involve the closure of the carriageway in both directions from Chester Road roundabout to Fairfield Street between the hours of 6am to 6pm on both days.
The council is asking that the public to plan any essential travel in advance using an alternative route, as traffic will be prohibited from travelling in both directions.
The Transport for Greater Manchester Website has detailed the local diversion route which will take drivers through the city centre via Deansgate, Whitworth Street West, Whitworth Street and Fairfield Street. They have indicated that “This route, during closures in previous years, has led to delays and journey times of up to 20 minutes on the Saturday and 15 minutes on the Sunday (that’s a long time to travel less than two miles!).”
