Go Ice-skating In Manchester

Ice Skating and Christmas seem to go hand in hand and there are two family-friendly links in Manchester this Christmas.  

Manchester Ice Rink In The Sky at Freight island

Running until the 9th January 2022, The Manchester Ice Rink is located at Freight Island on the concrete mezzanine level in Manchester City Centre.  The ice rink is part of the winter village where you will find food and drink that can be pre-ordered.

Skate Manchester, Cathedral Gardens

As part of Ice Village Manchester, this city-centre Ice Rink will be open until 3rd January 2020. The ice rink is open daily from 11.00am until 8.00pm with tickets starting at £11.00 depending on age and visit day and time. Skating aids are available for £5 and must be booked in advance.

From Pantos to family-friendly Christmas shows a Christmas holiday trip to the theatre makes a fun Christmas holiday treat. We are lucky here in Manchester to have lots of Christmas shows to choose from. Here are our top picks for 2021. 

Aladdin Panto, Manchester Opera House 

Panto’s are back in Manchester and for 2021 the Manchester Opera House is welcoming Aladdin starring Alexandra Burke to their stage. Running until 2nd January 2022 watch as Aladdin tries to find his riches in a funny spin on the traditional story of Aladdin.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Lowry Theatre 

Take the kids on a magical journey as you step through the wardrobe into Narnia. Showing on The Lowry stage until Saturday 15th January 2021 this amazing show follows four children as they help to save a magical world from a forever winter where it is never Christmas.

Gandeys Snow Storm The Ice Show Spectacular, Trafford Centre

Christmas City are showing a whole of films up to 31st December 2021. You can catch some great Christmas titles until Christmas Eve then some fun family favourites afterwards.

A trip to one of the local National Trust Properties makes a great Christmas Holiday day out. Here are our top picks with details of some of their Christmas Holiday events. 

Dunham Massey, Altrincham, WA14 4SJ

Dunham Massey is the place to go this Christmas Holidays. They have some lovely walks (with great paths for bikes and scooters for under 5’s), amazing food and beautiful gardens. Although their Christmas Light Trail is now sold out you will be able to spot some of the unlit installations which still look amazing.

Quarry Bank, Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Cheshire, SK9 4LA

A trip to Quarry Bank Mill is a good choice for a fun Christmas Day out. The is also lots more to keep the kids occupied at Quarry Bank Mill, with playgrounds, walks, the chance to become a Factory inspector, check out the Mill and Water Wheel and lots more.

Lyme Park, Disley, Stockport, SK12 2NR

Although they don’t have any specific events on over the Christmas holidays, Lyme Park has lots to offer. They offer a good choice of some great walks, beautiful gardens, Crows Wood large play area, the chance to spot a deer or two and lovely food in their tearooms and cafe.

Tinsel Town, Trafford Centre 

Running until 3rd January 2022, Tinsel Town at the Trafford Centre has a great outdoor funfair including the UK’s longest toboggan slide, a big wheel and more. There are lots of festive food on offer and more.

Winter Wonderland, Event City 

Enjoy a huge indoor funfair at Winter Wonderland. Taking place at Event City they have over 50 funfair rides, daily shows and even a circus. Sessions are four hours long and they have lots of festive food on offer throughout the event.
