Chinese New Year In Manchester

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger and Chinese New Year in Manchester with these great events. 

This year Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday 1st February 2022 will mark the Year of the Tiger. 

The celebrations in Manchester will start on the 1st to 6th February 2022 and will start with a giant towering sculpture of a Tiger towering over St Ann's Square. 

Made from wood and corrugated plastic it looks fragile in appearance but in fact will be strong and powerful. Made to represent sustainability and the natural habitat of the Tiger. 

On Sunday 6th February 2022 the celebrations will continue in China Town from 11.00am to 7.00pm with live performances, workshops, food stalls and a funfair.

The performances will include traditional lion dances, Chinese acrobatics, singing, poem reading and Kungfu.

Plus from 4.00pm to 7.00pm visitors will be able to enjoy the sight of an illuminated dragon lighting up Chinatown. 

The Tiger is the third in the 12 Chinese Zodiac signs. The zodiac animals in order are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. 

Those born in 2022, 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950 and 1938 will be classed as a Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac, although if born in January or February you could possibly be an Ox.
