Review : Seven Sisters Maize Maze, Knutsford

Girl at entrance of a maze at Seven Sisters If your family enjoys a challenge, the Seven Sisters Maize Maze in Knutsford is a great way to spend a couple of hours this summer.

We visited with our maze-loving 13-year-old and two grandparents, and it turned into a much bigger challenge than we expected!

Our Visit to Seven Sisters Maize Maze

The aim of the maze is to find seven scarecrows, each named after an ice cream flavour. As you find them, you write the names on your card before solving an anagram at the end. You can then email your answer to Seven Sisters for the chance to win prizes.

The signs suggest allowing up to an hour. We found our first scarecrow after about 20 minutes and thought we’d be finished in no time. We couldn’t have been more wrong!

The remaining scarecrows took much longer to find and we ended up spending 1 hour and 10 minutes completing the challenge.

It was lots of fun and just difficult enough to keep all four of us thinking without becoming frustrating.

It is fairly easy to find your way to the middle of the maze and you can also make your way out if you need to, but finding all seven scarecrows is a different story!

If you do get completely stuck, you can head back to the kiosk and ask for some help.

Ice Cream at Seven Sisters

Of course, you can’t visit Seven Sisters without having an ice cream afterwards!

There were lots of flavours to choose from, including chocolate, toffee, lemon meringue and plenty more. My daughter went for Oreo in a tub, while the rest of us chose raspberry and dark chocolate in cones.

The raspberry and dark chocolate was one of the best ice creams I’ve had. The combination was delicious and definitely made the perfect reward after an hour of finding our way around the maize maze.

As well as ice cream, they also sell milkshakes, hot drinks and cakes, so there are plenty of options if ice cream isn’t your thing.

There is indoor and outdoor seating where you can enjoy your treats, although picnics aren’t allowed.

Is Seven Sisters Maize Maze Suitable for Teenagers?

Our 13-year-old absolutely loved it, but I was also pleased to see that it wasn’t just younger children enjoying the maze.

We saw younger children and older teenagers taking part during our visit, so I’d say it works well for a really wide range of ages.

Having the seven scarecrows to find makes it more interesting than simply trying to find your way out, and it meant all four of us were involved in the challenge.

How Much Does Seven Sisters Maize Maze Cost?

The Seven Sisters Maize Maze costs £7 and we all thought it was good value, especially as we spent around an hour and ten minutes completing the challenge.

Once we’d finished the maze, we had our ice creams and spent some time looking around the rest of the site, making it easy to spend a couple of hours here.

Our Tips for Visiting Seven Sisters Maize Maze

  • Take photos of the scarecrows as you find them and fill in your card afterwards. It makes it easier to remember all the names.
  • Wear shoes you don’t mind getting dusty. We visited on a dry day and the paths were quite dusty, so you may end up with dirty feet.
  • Don’t worry if you get stuck. You can go back to the kiosk and ask for help if you can’t find one of the scarecrows.
  • Allow longer than you think. The maze says to allow up to an hour, but we took around 1 hour and 10 minutes to find all seven.

Family On The Go Verdict

We all really enjoyed our visit to the Seven Sisters Maize Maze. When we found the first scarecrow after just 20 minutes, we were worried it was going to be a very quick visit, but finding the other six took much longer!

Our 13-year-old loved the challenge and even the grandparents got involved in trying to find all seven scarecrows. It was a fun activity that we could all do together, and we never got bored.

And then there was the ice cream. The raspberry and dark chocolate was one of the best I’ve had, so it was a pretty perfect way to finish.

If you’re looking for a family day out in Knutsford or Cheshire, the Seven Sisters Maize Maze is definitely worth adding to your list.
